Cllr Andy Platt Standing up for Boothen, Oak Hill, Penkhull, Stoke & West End

Forecasts are not always true but if severe weather is expected it is best to take precautions. Last year, there were devastating floods on London Road.
Together with the residents and businesses I took a petition to the City Council and the issues were looked at by the scrutiny committee. There were several of the points raised in the petition that it was agreed needed more study, including improving the pelican crossing levels, bigger gullies and more space to store water underground.
However, one thing that was agreed for action straight away was cleaning out the gullies and streets beforehand when a storm was forecast and cleaning up afterwards. Yesterday, with the current forecast, I asked the director to confirm that this action was in place for this weekend.
You can contact me on councillor@andyplatt.org.uk if you have any concerns about this situation but if flooding does happen the first thing to do is to ring the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service on 999.
I hope the steps that have been taken will make flooding less likely
