• 2 grit bins less than 20m apart on Kingsway
  • The same grit bins from the other side
  • The grit bin closest to Spode - unused
  • The grit bin closest to the Minster - unused

The lack of grit bins on some of the steep terraced streets off London Road is a scandal. I have been fighting to get grit bins on these streets for several years.

This year I have again tried to get a bin for Liddle Street to serve both Frank Street and Boughey Street as well. Using the council’s own criteria it should qualify if it was understood that the commercial premises on London Road have no parking available except on the side streets and that these streets are the only access roads to all the properties. This is without challenging the gradient of the streets (another of their criteria).

I have asked the question. I am awaiting the answer…..

However, there is no shortage of duplicate and unused or at least underused grit bins. Take the 2 on Kingsway outside of the Town Hall. TWO – less than 20m apart! From the photos I took last week they don’t seem to have used at all during the recent bad weather. Surely, one of them could be moved to Liddle Street…………..
