The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a scheme to involve young people in their communities, give them self confidence and leadership skills. Locally the NCS is operated by Stoke City's Community Trust. Over 150 young people took part.
I was honoured to be invited to the awards ceremony at the Britannia Stadium last month. Among the projects undertaken by NCS locally was a oral history project at West End Village where young people interviewed the residents about their memories of work. Some of those interviewed were 80 years old or more and the interviewers only 16 or 17. From the stories it is clear that both the interviewers and the residents got a real buzz from being involved.
Well done to all
