Meeting new voters

08_Register_to_Vote.jpgLast week I was out meeting new voters along with local Labour Party members.  We try to do this regularly.

But this time it was different.  For over 30 years I have knocked on the doors of registered electors but we are now going to properties without any voters.

It is because the Government has changed the way we register from household to individual elector registration or IER.  The Electoral Commission had recommended that there should be a long lead time for the change.  However, the Tories have brought forward the start date to this December.

It is a legal requirement to register and you may be fined.  Registering may also improve your credit rating.

So over the month or so expect to see me and colleagues on the streets near you.  If you want to help please use the "Volunteer" button on this site but at the very minimum check with neighbours and friends to check whether they are registered.
