062_Rough_Sleepers.jpgThe weather seems to be set for a sustained cold spell with snow and ice.  All the forecasters say so.  The main issue in the local media is likely to be "Traffic Chaos" - Shock! Horror!  Although the Tories and independents are running the city council it is still likely that there will be criticism however muted it may be.

However, I am asking you to be more concerned about those issues that tend to get overlooked at this time.

061_City_of_Culture.jpgToday, soon after 7pm, we are going to find out whether or not we have been chosen to be the UK City of Culture 2021.  Whether we win or not we all know that there is much to celebrate in Stoke-on-Trent.  Not just the industry.  Not just the people.  Not just the innovation.  Not just the creativity.  I could go on.......

You may have heard that First Potteries Ltd (PMT) are cutting all evening and Sunday bus services along London Road.  This will come into affect Church_street_resurfacing_02.jpgfrom 25th November 2017.  This is despite the First Group having an operating profit of £339m according to their Annual Report.  I believe this to be callous, leaving the elderly and vulnerable stuck in their homes and many workers unable to get to work.

Although contractors tend to be very focused on health and safety these days we all need to be vigilant during construction, especially with Stoke Minster Primary School being next to the site.

If you have any concerns please let me know on andy.platt@stoke.gov.uk

031_Stoke_City_defib.jpgI am launching a campaign to install defibrillators throughout Boothen & Oak Hill ward.  I was inspired to do this by two experiences.

Firstly, when visiting the then Britannia Stadium a couple of years ago I noticed that they had defibrillators at various points around the ground and wondered whether it would be possible to do something in town.

After the US vote overnight I think at this time we need calm and reflection.  Jeremy Corbyn released the following statement which sums up quite well how we should respond.  I would add that I believe that at this time it is more important than ever for fair minded people to come together.  If you share our values then please join us today:- www.andyplatt.org.uk/join_national.

023_Potholes.jpgThis week I spent a couple of hours walking around the ward with several council officers and local PCSO to identify what issues are outstanding and identifying new ones.

I am always walking through the ward and reporting issues for action by the council.  As you can see from my previous post on Yeaman Street park they are normally acted on quickly.  Unfortunately, sometimes this does not happen.

What I have noticed is that the state of the roads has deteriorated since I last walked around with officers.

Just a short post to inform neighbours that work has started on repositioning some of the seats in the garden.  Where they were was hidden from view and occasionally attracted anti-social behaviour.

There will also be some work done on the planting to make it easier to maintain.

I have been on the local Planning Committee for many years.  There is a very strict code of conduct for how we consider applications.  We can not pre-judge any application until we enter the meeting and hear all the arguments.  We must listen to all arguments before we come to our conclusion on what the developer has submitted.

It is not always easy but that is how it is and how it must be.  We must be fair to all parties and seen to be fair to all parties.

On 25th May 2016 I sent the following email to nearly 100 constituents "As I was waiting for this morning's Planning Committee to start, which I was to chair in the absence of the normal chair, I received a request from The Sentinel to write a "Personally Speaking" column in a few weeks time.  I accepted.  Anyone who knows me well knows that I have strong views on many different and varied issues.  This is where you come in.  I would like you to suggest a topic that is important to you to help me decide what to write about.  As far as I am aware it can be on any subject.
I look forward to reading your ideas."

I got several but varied replies and so I decided to include them all and if yours was one then thank you.  I hope I have been true to your point and you share my response.
