#SOT2021 and "National Potteries Day"

061_City_of_Culture.jpgToday, soon after 7pm, we are going to find out whether or not we have been chosen to be the UK City of Culture 2021.  Whether we win or not we all know that there is much to celebrate in Stoke-on-Trent.  Not just the industry.  Not just the people.  Not just the innovation.  Not just the creativity.  I could go on.......

Well that is my view.  It would be brilliant to win and therefore 7th December would become a really significant day in the recent history of our city.  Hopefully, it would be celebrated each year and be the ideal day in 2020 on which to launch the City of Culture for the following year.

I was thinking about this the other day and thought that perhaps it should have a title.  A quick google surprisingly showed there was no "National Potteries Day".

Come on!  There's "days" for all sorts of things from serious medical conditions to paella but not one for our city's most important ever product, the product that gave us our city, the product that continues to inspire.

I created a message on Twitter which received a great amount of support both in this city and beyond.  "I propose that win or lose on Thursday #sot2021 that 7th December be "National Potteries Day" an annual celebration of the creativity of our city and industry......."

I now make this a formal proposition and look forward to your support for this long overdue celebration.
